Fun Games to Play With Your Dog

One of the best parts about having a dog is having a best friend, and the best part about having a best friend is having someone who is always in the mood to play. Games are usually there for dogs to encourage them to exercise and to stimulate their mind, but there are so many games out there to pick from. These classic and not so classic games seem to be favorites and suggested by a lot of dog owners.

These games include:

  • Tug of War

This is a classic game to play with your dog that only requires you, your dog, and a thing of rope. All you need to do is grab on one end of the rope and get your dog to bite the other end of the rope, and by making aggressive faces at your dog you encourage your dog to tug on the rope to try to attain the rope fully from you. Some pet stores even sell a sturdier type of rope to make it more difficult for your dog to hold on to the rope making it more of a challenge for your dog.

  • Simon Says

This is another classic game, but it is usually played with children. However, this game is fun to play with your dog especially if you are trying to train your dog to do the basic tricks such as sit, paw, and speak. You as the owner may also have to perform hand motions along with speaking the command to get your dog to do what you ask of he or she to do.

  • Catch

This is another classic game that can be played with any object out there. I mean, I wouldn’t use anything threatening to your dog to play catch with, but you can use some peculiar items to play cach with your dog. You could use a tennis ball, a frisbee, a stuffed animal, or a ball of socks. You could even throw one of your shoes out into the open field and your dog will go and retrieve it for you. In the end, it doesn’t matter to your dog what you use to play catch with as long as they are having fun.

  • Cups

This is not a common game to play with your dog such as catch and tug of war, but it is fun to play with your dog. This game was adapted for dogs to play to help improve their sense of smell. You need three cups and a treat in order to play the game. You flip over the cups and put the treat under one of the cups. It is up to you if you want to move around the cups to confuse your dog a bit, but you should allow your dog to sniff each cup to try to find the treat.

  • Treat Hunt

This game is similar to an Easter Egg Hunt, but you do not hide candy in easter eggs all over the backyard for your dog to find. Instead, you simply place doggy treats all over the backyard in easy to reach places for your dog to find. This is fun and easy way to feed your dog his or her snack for the day while working out your dog’s nose. This game is similar to cups in the sense that it helps improve your dog’s sense of smell.
