The most expensive dog breed will shock you!

Standard Poodles, German Shepherds, French Bulldogs, and the list goes on. There are so many prestigious dog breeds that are quite pricey, but only one can be the most expensive. You might be racking your brain for the most intelligent dog, the dog that won best in show, or the dog with fluffy hair and a pristine stature, but most people haven’t heard of this dog. It’s the (Red) Tibetan Mastiff!

This is a primitive pooch that was initially bred hundreds of years ago  to protect livestock such as sheep from wolves, bears, leopards, and more. Because of this, alongside with their territorial personalities, these dogs fall into the category of guardian breeds. They originated from nomadic cultures in Asia such as parts of China, India, Nepal, and Mongolia.

Fit with their guardian lifestyle, these dogs can grow up to 160 lbs. and almost three feet tall (33 inches). In other words, these dogs are enormous! These pups fashion double coats that come in a variety of colors, some of which include solid black, black mixed with tan, varying degrees of red (rust to a golden orange), gray, and off shades of white.

Although this dog is painted in an aggressive, primitive  light, this breed does have tons of modern day characteristics. Although they may not (and most likely will not) thrive in an apartment style home, if brought to the right house, one with a spacious, fenced-in yard, they will flourish. It is best to keep this dog social because it will help them establish guidelines on who/what is a normal aspect of their day to day lives. Because these breeds are so territorial, when approached with an animal or being they are not acquainted with, the Tibetan Mastiff may become aggressive. This breed is powerful and stubborn, yet highly intelligent. Most breeders recommend obedience training although with some individuals it may be more difficult.

Now for the part we’ve all been waiting for… price! Most dogs cost approximately $300, give or take a couple hundred dollars. The average dog isn’t free, but the Tibetan Mastiff costs a fortune. The price of a (Red) Tibetan Mastiff is *drumroll please*… a whopping $1.5 million!!! That’s more that most homes. Actually, that’s the cost of multiple homes combined! So there you have it, the Tibetan Mastiff is the most expensive doggie out there!
