As humans we enjoy the luxury of fruits and veggies, not only because they are good and delicious but because they are great for our health. Over the years, we have many heard many stories about what we can and what we cant feed our pets and today I wanted to know can pets eat fruits and veggies too?
The surprising fact is yes. Dogs can eat fruit and veggies but only certain kinds. According to Trupanion , Dogs can have fruits and veggies but you have to cut them up pea-sized in order for your pet to digest them.
Trupanion says” Introducing new foods into your pet’s diet may cause upset stomach issues such as vomiting or diarrhea. Be cautious to introduce only one new fruit or vegetable at a time to help you spot any health changes.” You have to careful when giving fruits and veggies to your dog for the first time.
On their website they offer a list of fruits and veggies that you can give to your dog.
For the fruits, some of the ones they listed included:
- Mangos and more
They say to steer clear from giving your pet raisins and grapes because they can cause kidney damage as well as some citrus fruits such as grapefruits and lemons. They can give your pet upset stomach.
For the veggies, some of the ones they listed included:
- Green Beans
- Cauliflower and more
They said in order to give veggies to your pet, you would have to steam it first to make it suitable for your pet to chew and digest.
Remember to steer clear of veggies like garlic and onions because Trupanion says that these veggies contain toxins that are not good for your pet at all. they also said to avoid wild mushrooms and corn as well because corn is named to be a common allergy for dogs.
In conclusion, Even though dogs can eat fruits and veggies please be mindful and pay attention to what your dogs does and the health of your dog before you decide to introduce a new thing to their diets, incorporate it bits and pieces at a time. Happy Dog Days Everyone!!!!!!
